• Background Check Rejected – Speeding ticket from 2008

I decided I wanted to drive for Uber again part time this summer, 2024. It had been years since I drove for Uber so I initiated everything all over again to get the ball rolling. My MVR came back clear from Checker. No surprise, I’ve had 1 speeding ticket in the past 7 years. However… Drumroll… My criminal background check was rejected as of May 14, 2024. I was completely dumbfounded at first. I don’t have a record…

I grew up in Utah. Any traffic citation in Utah is classified as a class C misdemeanor regardless if you paid and cleared it. I had a few tickets from when I was age 17-21. None were for anything even close to 20 over. The most recent ticket was in 2008 for 49 in a 40. One was for 5 over. This includes citations pulled from when I was a minor (under 18). Interesting fact, I was in the military for many years and had to undergo secret clearance checks on multiple occasions. These speeding tickets were never listed on the background check conducted by Quantico. At least not forwarded to the report given to me at the time.

When I contacted Uber about the situation I was given the run around starting stage one. Uber stated that they do not “reject” background checks, but that HireRight does. On one phone call an Uber manager even lied to me and told me that Uber had not received my criminal background check yet. This was weeks after Uber had confirmed receiving my background check. I contacted HireRight multiple times. They specifically told me that they do not “reject” any reports and simply supply Uber with the reported information. At that point neither Uber or HireRight could tell me which citation made my report “rejected.”

I finally got a phone call from Uber and was told to dispute the background check. The women from Uber told me that the initial background check was screened autonomously and that they would “try” to manually review my background check. I “disputed” the background check a week ago. Uber will take 30 days to review. However, all of the citations on the background report from 2004-2008 are valid.

Has anyone ever had this problem or been able to at a bare minimum talk to someone at Uber who actually matters? If I call Uber I speak to someone outside the United States and if I ask any questions I’m simply given generic responses from a script. I’ve even been hung up on when I ask them why they can’t answer my questions.

    Thanks in advance.
