Driver freedom of choice
I’ve been driving for over a year. Took. Four months off this summer and now back. Before I quit I could select for about two hours parts of our region that I did not go to. Now that option is no longer available.
There is too little freedom for drivers who have special concerns about the distance from home they go or areas in which the driver feels uncomfortable. St. Augustine Fl is grouped into a region loosely called Jacksonville. Part of my problem is that an airport run from St Augustine to Jacksonville Airport is a minimum of an hour drive. It can often turn into much longer. Then one has to hope to get a return trip or get stuck north of Jacksonville.
We all know the idea of selecting a destination to get rides to is a bust. I end up going in circles where I am.
I have a family with health concerns and I do not want to be an hour away from home. There are some parts of the area that are so congested nobody wants to be driving, but because Florida has no public transport to speak of, they have to. Uber’s only answer is to forget the concerns or quit driving. That’s like telling a paraplegic to learn to walk or you can’t work here because we will not put in a handicapped ramp.
We should be able to rule out in advance going more than 25 miles from home base or whatever we choose.
