• How to get trips you want and improve your acceptance rating

Here are some things you can do to get the trips you want and still keep a better acceptance rating. Fair warning it won’t work all the time and you have to KNOW your market.

Be sure you have a car with good fuel economy. Skip the 6 liter V8’s. Look for that hybrid with 40+ mpg.

When you first start with Uber take a lot of trips. Learn what are the likely trips from what area of your market. Remember that you don’t have to make money on all trips. You have to make money on most trips. Yes it’s a lot better to always make money. But I live in the real world, that is not always possible. Sometimes you have to gamble.

Also when things are slow, park in various locations and see which ones are more active. Suggestions are; near apartments, near grocery stores, in a busy mall and by mass transit terminals. Not all areas will work equally well. You need to learn where the good places to park and wait are.

Also when going longer distances learn where you are likely to get trips back to your preferred area. Again not all locations are the same.

Also don’t be afraid to refuse bad trips. To remain in the bonus program Uber requires an acceptance rate of 85 percent. You can refuse 15 out of every 100 pings and not have a problem. You are also judged on your last 200 trips. My bias is to take the trip, but if it looks like a money looser refuse. Also you can go below 85 percent as long as you hit 85 percent after you qualify.

There are three ways you can use to get back after long trips.

Destination filter. The best way you can get trips back after you have traveled to a location. Trips that don’t match do not count against your acceptance rate. However you only get two uses a day. It resets on a daily basis. I generally use this at least once a day. Uber’s idea of closer to your destination may not agree with yours. But when it works it’s best.

Just drive back and hope. My second choice when I don’t want to overuse my destination filter options. This is where knowing the market matters, it’s a judgment call. It may not work.

Go offline and reposition the car. This is my last choice as it is a money looser. But when there are too many trip requests that don’t work sometimes you have to do this. I prefer this to having to reject a bunch of trips. I will typically use this as a break. Listen to the radio and chill, bathroom breaks etc.

Here is an example of how I do this. I received a trip to the airport in the mid afternoon. I took the trip to the airport and collected a nice fare. Then I went online using destination filter to get back home to go out to dinner. The trips back were about the same value as the airport trip. Daily goal met we went to dinner.

Sorry for the long post but folks it’s pretty simple. Try it out and let me know.
