• Ready to quit driving? Employ the “Thelma and Louise gambit” on your way out

For any of you who makes up your mind to quit… Before you actually stop turning on the app do this instead… accept every ride for a while, and for each one immediately call the rider, tell them you would lose money if you give them the ride, and offer to take them if they cancel and pay you directly.

You have to call them rather than wait till you pick them up because Uber is charging higher and higher cancellation fees, which is a disincentive for the rider.

Be ready to accept as many forms of payment as you can; cash, credit card (Square), venmo, paypal, ApplePay, you name it.

Not everyone will accept your offer. Fine. Cancel and move on. Of course sooner or later Uber and/or Lyft will catch up with you and deactivate your account. So what? You were going to quit anyway. In the meantime you may put some good money in you wallet.

If you employ this what could be called the “Thelma and Louise gambit” let us know how it goes.
