• Recent rider feedback: talking too much

    Long message…

Hmmm… I am admittedly a chatty person…too chatty. Especially for an adult male. And it seems to me that more women than men, stereotypically, are into chatting, right? (Sorry to offend women, but excessive chatting is sometimes or often considered mindless.)

I drove a cab for years, and lovee to chat when possible. But we had no ratings or rider feedback to keep me in check.

But being a “Gabby Cabbie” is not necessarily a compliment, I now realize. In fact, it can be annoying to the passengers, even disrespectful, right?

I try too hard to be liked, and want to be entertaining, interesting, educational about the city… blah blah blah. Not like “those other boring and uncaring drivers!”

If someone wants a tour of Boston, they’ll pay for a damned tour elsewhere, by trainer professionals, right?

I dislike when drivers don’t acknowledge me and don’t attempt to engage in light, sporadic conversation or chat. But some or most pax just want to tune out and chill, right? Perhaps especially if they don’t like a driver’s appearances, sex, sexual orientation nationality, accent, etc.

It’s good to get such feedback, as I need to tame it down as I’ve realized years ago.

One lady said I sound autistic. What a thing to say, huh? I think I am autistic, perhaps. I sound very hyper most of the time and likely need meds.

Some taxi and rideshare pax have asked if I’m high or on coke. Others say I should be a comedian. Others say “thanks for chatting.”

Just drive. A to B. Simple, right? If they want friends, they’ll usually go on apps and to bars, right. Some but not many over all the years have asked for my phone number or for a date, or to come to their apartment. But very, very rarely. I am very fat.

I wonder if any here have ever received such feedback.

Can I be deactivated if I get many similar complaints?

Yes, you can detect in this message how chatty I am, right?

But my mediocre rating has gone up 2 points in less than two weeks after returning to UberX after a few years. So I don’t even think this pax rated poorly, if at all. Just send me feedback.

Yet I’ve had other pax in the cab and maybe in rideshares say how it’s so nice to talk to me, the driver, as most drivers reportedly don’t engage with pax other than hello and good bye.
