• Why has the ding-a-ling alert tone when I get a ride request, become so quiet?

Used to be that the ding-a-ling tone would boom out nice and loud when I got a ride request. If I wanted it to be quieter, I could have turned down the volume on my phone (right?).

Yes, I don’t have the “mute” button pressed. I CAN hear the ding-a-ling tone… but it’s vey quiet.

Now, the alert is so quiet that I often miss it entirely. Frequently when I’m driving, I catch out of the corner of my eye that there’s a ride request on the phone that seems to have been there for a while. And just as I turn my attention to it, it vanishes, usually because some other driver got it. When that happens, I check the volume lever on the phone, pressing the button to turn it up. But it’s already all the way up.

Is there some hidden volume control for alerts, that I don’t know about? The Uber Driver app has gotten a number of updates recently. Did this “very quiet alert” get sneaked in there somehow?

I don’t make a practice of staring at my phone in case a ride request comes up. I’d rather watch where I’m going.

How do I make these ride-request alerts louder, so I can devote my attention to the road ahead instead of monitoring mostly the phone, at 55mph-plus?
