Cal Poly custodian posing as rideshare driver arrested for sexual assault, kidnapping charges

Trigger warning: This story mentions sexual assault

A University Housing custodian and Nipomo resident was arrested yesterday after allegedly sexually assaulting a college-aged woman while holding another against her will after posing as a rideshare app driver this weekend.

Angel Munoz Quintana, 29, was arrested for two counts of felony kidnapping, and one count of felony false imprisonment, felony oral copulation by use of force, and felony assault with the intent to commit rape.

University Spokesperson Matt Lazier confirmed Munoz Quintana is a Cal Poly employee.

In further investigation, police determined there was a second female who had contact with the suspect over the same weekend, but she was not sexually assaulted. However, she was held against her will.

The two incidents occurred in the neighborhoods adjacent to Cal Poly, according to a City of San Luis Obispo press release

The victim of the alleged assault reported the incident to the San Luis Obispo Police Department on Monday, police said. Police identified Munoz Quintana after one of the victims provided descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle and conducted a two-day investigation.

Munoz Quintana was a known problem among Cal Poly students over the weekend

Multiple female Cal Poly students told Mustang News this morning that Munoz Quintana approached them in his car while they were out on Saturday night.

One student said Munoz Quintana drove up next to her while she was on foot near the intersection of Slack Street and Longview Lane next to the Recreation Center parking lot and offered $3,000 in cash in exchange for sexual favors. The student added the cash may not have been real.

The student said her friends also encountered Munoz Quintana. Over the weekend, one group of friends sent a text message to their group chat, stating that they should beware of a man offering cash while driving near campus and pretending to be a rideshare driver.

Munoz Quintana is being held on a bail of $1.2 million at the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is concerned there “may be more victims.” The police encourage anyone with more information to contact them at 805-594-8025.
