Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport Says Arrive Early, Use Rideshare
Record Passenger Traffic Expected Starting Today. More Than 2.1-Million Passengers…

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you’re flying out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport over the next few weeks, good luck to you. The airport is expecting a huge number of passengers to join you, likely causing significant delays and major parking problems. FLL provided BocaNewsNow.com with warnings and tips:
Airport officials anticipate serving over 2.1 million travelers during the year-end Christmas and New Year’s peak holiday travel time-frame of Saturday, December 21, 2024, to Monday, January 6, 2025. That reflects a nearly 6% increase from the same holiday period in 2023. During this winter travel season, FLL’s busiest days are expected to be Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before Christmas, followed by Sunday and Monday before New Year’s Day and the first Saturday after the start of 2025. Overall, FLL anticipates an average of 124,054 daily passengers over the 17 days.
Arrive Early: While it’s generally recommended to arrive at least two hours before your departure time for domestic flights and three hours if flying internationally, during peak travel periods such as the Christmas/New Year’s holiday period, it’s best to follow any updated guidance from your airline as they may require additional time for check-in and bag processing. Security processing lines may also be longer due to increased holiday passenger traffic.
Airport Traffic: Terminal roadways will be busier with vehicular activity during peak periods throughout the holiday season. If picking up family or friends at FLL, consider using the upper-level (Departures) roadway instead when the lower-level (Arrivals) roadway is congested on approaching the airport’s entrance or vice versa.
Onsite Parking: With the ongoing high demand for curbside valet service and self-parking options at FLL, especially during the holidays, we recommend getting dropped off by family, friends, or a ride-share service instead (Uber, Lyft, etc.) as our onsite garages could reach full capacity.
Travel & Weapons: They don’t mix well. However, if you have to travel with a licensed firearm, pack and transport your weapon safely in a secure, hard-sided locked container as checked luggage. If caught with a gun at a TSA passenger screening checkpoint, this will disrupt your travel plans, and you could face a hefty penalty as well as an arrest.
